Could you be our Volunteer Coordinator?

Position: Volunteer Coordinator (part time post)
Pay: £10/hour
Basis: Three days per week / 24h (0.6 full time equivalent)
Contract: Fixed Term, 1st October 2021- 31st Jan 2022 (4 months) – potential to extend

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: Friday 24th September

Come and join our team as our Volunteer Coordinator! This is an exciting opportunity to join a young organisation looking to make a big difference to the biodiversity of our local area while also tackling the climate crisis. Co-forest is based in the beautiful city of Bath – and whilst you are welcome to work flexibly from home or from our shared office in Bath, you will be required to travel around the Avon region – especially to our first Co-forest planting site in Almondsbury, near Bristol (paid fuel expenses).

Are you a good fit?

We care about delivering environmental change, specifically Co-forest aims to bring together like-minded individuals and organisations to buy land and plant new forestry in order to create habitat, sequester carbon and increase biodiversity. If that sounds like a vision you can get behind and that you feel passionate about – then you’re already halfway there!

From our perspective, to be a great fit for the role you will have experience of managing volunteers and/or large groups from a previous role. General project management experience would be a bonus! Whilst the role comes with the support of the Trustees and our partners, this is the first paid role within the organisation – so you’ll be expected to manage some aspects of your time.

Additionally, a desire to work outside (in all weathers!) is fundamental as a significant part of this role will be organising tree planting days with volunteers throughout the winter season. Be prepared to plant a few trees yourself along the way – as that is fundamentally what we do.

Day-to-day

On a day-to-day basis, you could be overseeing communications with our volunteers, planning planting events and generally keeping volunteer partners in the loop. Equally you could be out in the field training volunteers in tree planting, organising sapling deliveries, directing contractors or running planting days. We can promise variety and flexibility, although some weekend working will be necessary. This role will particularly suit someone passionate about working with others to increase their knowledge and enthusiasm about protecting the environment.

You must have:

  • Experience of managing volunteers (or large groups).
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • A passion for working in the outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Access to your own vehicle in order to travel to our Almondsbury planting site

Desirable / bonus points for:

  • Project management experience
  • A relevant qualification in conservation, biology, forestry or a related discipline.
  • Experience of tree planting

Please note, as this role requires the ability to spend some time in central Bath, and additional time in the Avon area we will not be accepting applications for fully remote working.

This role has a paid leave allowance of 27 days per annum (pro rata 0.6 contract over 4 months = 6 days), which must be taken between 20th Dec and 1st Jan.

To apply, send your CV and covering letter to team@coforest.co.uk

No agencies / recruiters please.

Let's talk trees.

If you’d like to get involved in the Co-forest vision, donate as a business, or simply discuss the project further, we’d love to hear from you.
